Useful/Awesome Mac Applications

A few days ago, I was browsing the web, looking for interesting applications for my MacBook. And I noticed that a lot of people seem to be making lists of their favourite applications, or ones that they find useful.
“Hmmm,” I thought. “This is quite a popular trend, isn’t it?” So I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do one of my own. And who knows? Maybe you’ll all like it so much that you’ll tell all your friends, who’ll tell all their friends, et cetera, and this webpage will become famous overnight!
Yeah right. Anyway, best get started. Here they are, in alphabetical order! And remember to tune in soon for a blog on customizing your Mac’s icons!

Click "Expand" to see my list!

So, here's my list:

Adium - An MSN client for Mac that allows you to log on to multiple accounts at once. It enables, among others, iChat, MSN, AIM and facebook. It also syncs with Growl (see later on this list), which is ridiculously comfortable.

Audacity - A simple sound recording and editing thingamajie.

Aurora - This is incredibly cool! It’s an alarm clock that uses your iTunes playlists. It’s incredibly idiot proof and handles smoothly.

CleanMyMac
- If your Mac is getting slow and you don’t want it to, you need this.

Delicious Library 2 - I’m still a n00b at this one, but you can make a cyber-library of basically everything you own, and keep track of it. It works with Address Book, so that if you lend, say, a CD to someone, you just drag it onto that contact, and you can even make iCal let you know when it’s due to be returned.

Firefox
- My web browser of choice. It’s neat, fast and easy to use. A total no-brainer for this list.

Google Notifier - Since you must have Google Notifier you must have Gmail. Since you must have Gmail you must have Google Notifier. ‘Nuff said.

Growl - It works both with adium and Google Notifier, and basically what it does is that it notifies you when you get a message, or e-mail, or a download finishes... It’s very useful.

Handbrake - The best video encoder for Mac. (It rips your DVDs onto the computer)

iAlertU
- A security alarm for your laptop. It’s awesome.

iGlasses
- Very useful if you don’t want to look fugly when you’re talking to someone via iChat or Skype (listed later). Basically it gives you full control over your built-in iSight camera.

InsomniaX - Keeps your laptop awake when you close the lid. Useful if your iPod’s out of battery, you’re on a bus, but you just really want to listen to that song!

iShowU HD - An all-around screen-capturing software. Records (optionally) mic- and output audio as well as keystrokes and and iSight video (and your screen, du’h). Also allows you to put watermarks on the recorded videos.

Little Snitch - It’s the ultimate app. It allows you to (I want you to read the next sentence carefully) control what info is sent out of your mac. If you don’t want an application sending information to the internet, Little Snitch will block it easily. I recommend this for most shareware applications downloaded from the internet.

Mémoirs - A simple, clean-looking and smooth journal with a password. I very much enjoy it. :D

OpenOffice - A free word-processor that anyone who’s ever used Microsoft Word should understand with ease. And did I mention it’s free?

Pod to Mac - If you’re switching between computers (or your computer crashed) and you don’t want to set up your entire iTunes library again, this is the program you need.

Prism - An easy to use video converter that looks very cool.

Skype
- Yeah, you’re gonna need this if you have friends that live far away and don’t have a mac (and can therefore not use iChat).

TaskMate - A simple checklist app.

Transmission
- Everyone’s favourite torrent client. Seriously.

VLC
- If you ever play video on your computer, you’re gonna need this one. Plain and simple.

Wallsaver
- A really cool app that lets you use screensavers as wallpapers.
